about

Killing the Buddha blends Americana, bluegrass, jazz, ethnic, and rock into an eclectic delight for tapping toes and letting your mind go. The title is derived from the Zen koan attributed to 9th century Buddhist sage Lin Chi, “If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.” Koans by nature are confusing, designed to inspire students of Buddhism to ponder all possible meanings, but most interpretations of this koan agree that objectification of the Buddha, or any religion’s holy figure, results from attempts to reduce enlightenment to an intellectual or philosophical understanding, an impossibility. The only assertion the title song “Killing the Buddha” makes is that music is one of life’s best achievements — a good time for ears and mind. I hope you enjoy these tunes as much as I have enjoyed writing and recording them. Wishing you the very best…
